HIV/STI Prevention
HIV/STI Prevention
Previously, HIV/sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention was one of Ibis’s core research areas. Many of those research aims have since been folded into our work on linking HIV and sexual and reproductive health.
Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to HIV and other STIs) for a number of biological, social, economic, and cultural reasons. Women now constitute the majority of new HIV infections worldwide and urgently need prevention methods that they can control. Our research and policy analysis sought to expand women’s options for HIV/STI prevention, particularly through the Methods for Improving Reproductive Health in Africa (MIRA) trial , which sought to evaluate the effectiveness of the diaphragm to prevent transmission of HIV.
