Ibis cosponsors Boston screening of <em>Roe at Risk: Fighting for Reproductive Justice</em>

April 29, 2014 – Ibis was delighted to join nine other organizations for the Boston premiere of Roe at Risk: Fighting for Reproductive Justice, a documentary describing the recent nationwide attacks on reproductive health and constitutional rights women’s constitutional rights. The film is narrated by Amy Brenneman, and focuses on the stories of women in Mississippi and Texas. 

 

 

Aziza Ahmed, Associate Professor of Law, Northeastern University School of Law, Nan Aron President, Alliance for Justice, and Martha Walz, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts participated on a panel following the film to discuss the recent legislation and litigation, including McCullen v. Coakley, a case currently before the Supreme Court challenging a Massachusetts law which created a 35-foot buffer zone around reproductive health care centers that provide abortion. Last fall, Ibis signed on to an amicus brief in support of the zone. 

During the panel attendees were encouraged to recognize that these laws and cases are not isolated instances affecting only “other states,” but often occur in seemingly progressive and liberal states, including Massachusetts.
