Ruvani is a Research Scientist at Ibis. Ruvani is an epidemiologist who leads work on measuring the experiences of people who self-manage their abortion including: measuring the safety and effectiveness of self-managed medication abortion; identifying opportunities for expanding access to self-managed abortion resources and support; and development of person-centered approaches to measure medication abortion experiences. She also serves as the Principal Investigator on several projects, including a research study aimed at measuring the abortion experiences of people living in refugee/humanitarian contexts in Kenya and Uganda, a pilot study to validate a self-report questionnaire for measuring abortion complications and outcomes in India, and a community-engaged research study developing and evaluating interventions that expand access to abortion accompaniment models. Ruvani prioritizes developing research questions in close partnership with accompaniment groups, safe abortion hotlines, and advocacy organizations to ensure that the needs of those they serve are centered in the research process. Ruvani’s methodologic expertise is in study design and implementation, respondent-driven sampling, and quantitative bias analysis. Ruvani received her undergraduate degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global Epidemiology from Emory University; and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley.
