January 23, 2011 – In a letter to the Surgeon General, Ibis urged contraception inclusion as part of preventive health care in the US National Prevention Strategy. The letter asserted that access to contraception would help to “reduce unintended pregnancy and improve the lives of women and their families.” Ibis pointed to the large need for contraception in the United States, the United States’ high unintended pregnancy rate, and the aim of the Center for Disease Control to reduce unintended pregnancy, to highlight the need for specific recommendations regarding contraception to be added to the National Prevention and Health Promotion strategy.
