A human rights and reproductive justice approach to research and partnerships

In a just world, we would all have the resources we need—including information, services, supportive policies, and power—to make the best choices for ourselves, our families, and our communities, to choose whether and when to have children, and to raise those children with dignity. Yet, the structural inequities of racism, economic and gender inequality, colonialism, homophobia, and many other systems of oppression prevent people around the world from exercising their right to reproductive freedom.

We recognize that what we research, how we conduct our research, and the impact of our research must be in service to our vision of a wold where all people can enjoy the human right to a pleasurable, safe, and healthy sexual and reproductive life.  Our Statement of Principles was developed to help ensure our research projects and partnerships meet the highest ethical and quality standards, and are also grounded in human rights and reproductive justice principles. Similarly, our Practical Guide for implementing a human rights and reproductive justice approach to research and partnerships offers practical ways to conduct rigorous research that centers human rights and reproductive justice.

We welcome your feedback on these resources, and hope you will share them widely and let us know how you use them in your own work. We look forward to many more years of collaboration with our partners and supporters to advance reproductive health, rights, and justice for all around the world.
