Akhona joined Ibis first of October 2018 as a Project Manager in the Johannesburg office. Akhona is a Researcher and Survey Statistician with 9 years of research experience and joined from Statistics South Africa where she worked as a Survey Statistician.

Akhona is an experienced thought leader and an Alumni of the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute as well as the World Economic Forum Global Shaper with extensive experience in research, international diplomacy, and coordination. She served as president for Isibalo Young African Statisticians, a continental programme in service of emerging researchers and statisticians in Africa and for Africa’s development. 

Apart from her research experience, Akhona is an author who has published peer-reviewed articles and Book chapter: e.g No African Futures without the Liberation of Women: A Decolonial Feminist Perspective, Africa Development, Vol. 40, No. 3, Transforming Global Relations for a Just World (2015), pp. 41-57; Contributor of a co-authored chapter to Regenerating Africa: Bringing African Solutions to African Problems (2016) edited by Mammo Muchie, Vusi Gumede and Samuel oloruntoba. She holds Masters in Diplomacy, Law, and Business.
